Advent Prayers for Hope, Peace, Joy and Love
An Advent prayer can help Christians prepare for Christmas by turning attention to hope, peace, joy and love. Set aside a quiet moment, name the people or concerns on your heart, and ask for wisdom in how you live this season. These original examples can be used at home or with family.

What is Advent, and when does it begin in 2026?
Advent is a season of preparation before Christmas in many Western Christian traditions. In 2026, the first Sunday of Advent is November 29. Churches differ in how they observe the season; you can use these prayers without following a particular candle sequence or liturgy.
Calendar reference: USCCB: First Sunday of Advent, November 29, 2026.
An Advent prayer for hope
Lord Jesus, help me receive this season with hope. When I cannot see the whole path, give me wisdom for the next step. Help me notice kindness, offer care, and trust that I do not face life's difficulties alone. Amen.
You can personalize this prayer for someone beginning treatment, facing an uncertain job situation, or carrying grief. Naming a concern honestly is enough; you do not need to make your words sound confident when you are struggling.
An Advent prayer for peace
Lord Jesus, bring peace to our home and to the people on our hearts. Help us slow down, listen well, and speak with patience. Give us calm in uncertainty and courage to seek support where it is needed. Amen.
Peace can include practical choices: allowing room to rest, asking for help, or setting respectful boundaries. Prayer is spiritual support, not a replacement for mental health care or other qualified assistance.
An Advent prayer for joy
Lord Jesus, help us welcome moments of joy without forgetting those who are hurting. Teach us gratitude for small gifts and generosity toward others. Let our celebration make room for kindness and compassion. Amen.
A family can invite each person to name one thing they appreciate and one person they want to remember. Keep the moment voluntary and simple, especially when the season brings difficult memories.
An Advent prayer for love
Lord Jesus, guide us to love through our words and actions. Help us care for neighbors, remember those who feel alone, and approach our family with patience. Give us wisdom to offer support that is thoughtful and respectful. Amen.
